๐Ÿ“… Founded 2001 (current city); inhabited since prehistoric timesOriginally Musashino Province (ๆญฆ่”ตๅ›ฝ)By Current city formed by merger of Urawa, Omiya, and Yono cities on May 1, 2001

The Saitama region formed part of ancient Musashino Province, one of the heartland territories of early Japan โ€” human habitation here stretches back over 20,000 years. Omiya, one of its component towns, grew around Hikawa Shrine, one of Japan's oldest and most revered Shinto sites. The modern city was created on May 1, 2001, when three neighbouring cities merged by administrative consolidation. It is best known for its spectacular cherry blossoms along the Edo River in Satte, drawing visitors from across greater Tokyo.

Fun Fact

Saitama Prefecture is home to the world's only dedicated manga museum, the Kawagoe Manga Museum, and the Saitama Super Arena โ€” one of Asia's largest indoor arenas.
